Our Mission

Building and renovating schools in Central Africa to create an equitable learning environment and end generational poverty

Tomorrow Education is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission impacts elementary and secondary schools in Central Africa. We evaluate the physical condition of schools and through donors and sponsors will reconstruct schools based on both school and community needs. We hire local labor stimulating the economy. The community rallies around the school project and is invested in maintaining it. Together, we can bring communities in Central Africa one step closer out of poverty.

The Challenge

The Current Landscape in Cameroon and Where Our Journey Began

Country

Northern Cameroon was originally a French colony while southern Cameroon was a British colony. It officially became one independent nation on October 1st, 1961 now known as Unification Day.

People

Cameroon is considered to be an “ethnic crossroads” as there are more than 200 different ethnic groups. Life expectancy for both men and women is below the global average leaving two-thirds the population under the age of 30.

Corruption

Due to a weak and corrupt governance, it ranks 152 out of 180 countries in the 2018 Transparency International Corruption Perceptions index, which prevents development and investment in the country.

Schools

The state requires children to attend school only from the ages 6 to 11. Only 53% of children of the right age attend secondary school compared to 85% of primary-aged children in primary school.

Poverty

The poverty rate has increased by 12% between 2007 and 2014 adding an additional 8.1 million people to poverty out of their 25 million people. In the northern region, 56% of people live in poverty.

Violence

Violence broke out in November 2016 due protests to solidify the use of only English in schools and courts in their predominantly English-speaking region. The violence has been targeted at schools forcing many to close.

The Solution

How We Improve Schools for Better Equality

  • Application

Schools submit applications for us to review. Our goal is to work with the schools with the highest need and go from there.

  • Assess the School

We assess the current state of the school and evaluate the school’s needs. Needs include number of classrooms, classroom materials, number of bathrooms, etc.

  • Building Plan

Based on our assessment, we will develop the building plan and determine the cost of the construction.

  • Fundraising Plan

With the completion of the building plan, we coordinate our fundraising efforts and set our project goal. We also collect school supplies to donate to the school at the grand opening.

  • Break Ground

We start construction of the school. Due to seasons in Cameroon, this usually occurs starting in April.

  • Grand Opening

We hold a grand opening of the new school building and donate all supplies also collected through fundraising process… then we repeat!
